For nearly 30 years we've successfully
traded in trust: trust that we'll act with honesty,
probity, truthfulness and candour. That trust has
brought us much success and, most pleasingly, mountains
of thanks from holidaymakers who have booked through
us and been happy that they did. They have found, rather
at odds with their common experience of general marketing
guff, that with HH what you see (and read) really
is what you get and frequently it's much better.
There's a famous quotation about 'fooling all of the
people some of the time' and 'some of the people all
of the time', but less famous and less quoted is the
prelude to that: 'If you once forfeit the confidence
of your fellow citizens, you can never regain their
respect and esteem'. The bit about 'fooling' followed.
Lincoln knew that 'fooling' would, probably, ultimately
lead to a loss of trust - and then you'd be finished.
We live in an age where that lesson is sometimes forgotten
and where the evasions and deceptions of politicians
and corporations fill the media, draining our confidence
and bolstering our cynicism - how exhausting! Ultimately,
trust is the currency that really counts and
we're happy that earning yours through our straightforward
and frank approach has been the touchstone of our
business since we started.
We hope we can help find you a good place where
you will have a very happy holiday. We cannot control
all the variables, but we can make sure we tell you
about our houses as we would hope you would tell us
if the boot was on the other foot. That seems a reasonable
basis for trust and 99% of our holidaymakers every year
seem to agree. There are some fabulous new houses this
year and we're delighted to welcome back all the old

HH has been a family business
since it was founded in 1982. We're based in
Chagford within the Dartmoor
National Park; at the heart of the West Country.
We know it and the holiday cottages we let very well
and although we now have an excellent team
of 30 (some pictured above) who administer, inspect
(see star
ratings) and help arrange a little over
16,000 bookings a year we retain a 'small firm' ethos
where customers automatically come first.
It says something that (60%+) of our bookings are from
previous customers, their friends, relatives and work
colleagues and amazing as it may sound, a fairly standard
99.25% of customers who've responded to our
questionnaires in 2007 said they would recommend our
services to friends.
We laughed when, in the early days
of the internet, our IT department started automatically
replying to e-mails sent to us with the words "Humans
are now dealing with your enquiry," but
perhaps this best sums up HH - Helpful Humans.
