There’s a wondrous variety
amongst the houses we choose to include in our portfolio.
Romantic little country bolt holes,
elegant manor houses, plush new apartments,
strong farmhouses; the assortment
is so broad that you might be tempted to think
there’s no connecting thread - but if you thought that,
you’d be wrong. Let me explain. Many years ago when
my parents founded Helpful Holidays, they determined
that, above all, they would do all they could to match
holidaymakers’ dreams to a house and location
that really fulfilled them. A modest aim, perhaps, but
one that became our firm’s ‘raison d’être’.
That’s why they called our firm ‘Helpful’ - because
helping make those dreams come true
was their principal motivation. Although over the years
almost everything else has changed, nothing has about
that aspiration.
We’ve earned an enviable reputation
for the frankness of the information
we provide, the quality of the accommodation
we offer and the reliability of the service
we provide - in other words - we deliver.
We’re proud of that reputation. We know it’s the key
to our success. In a world where so much seems to be
beyond our, or it seems anyone’s, control, preservation
of that reputation remains our touchstone. So here’s
the connection between all those varied houses, big
or small, plush or modest - they’re all, we believe,
good places for happy holidays and,
most importantly, places to which we’re happy
to put our valuable name.

HH has been a family business
since it was founded in 1982. We're based in
Chagford within the Dartmoor
National Park; at the heart of the West Country.
We know it and the holiday cottages we let very well
and although we now have an excellent team
of 30 (some pictured above) who administer, inspect
(see star
ratings) and help arrange a little over
16,000 bookings a year we retain a 'small firm' ethos
where customers automatically come first.
It says something that (60%+) of our bookings are from
previous customers, their friends, relatives and work
colleagues and amazing as it may sound, a fairly standard
99.25% of customers who've responded to our
questionnaires in 2007 said they would recommend our
services to friends.
We laughed when, in the early days
of the internet, our IT department started automatically
replying to e-mails sent to us with the words "Humans
are now dealing with your enquiry," but
perhaps this best sums up HH - Helpful Humans.
