Devon holiday cottage guests invited to water carnival

Families staying in a Devon holiday cottage can enjoy a fun-filled day by the seaside next month.

The 50th annual Shaldon Water Carnival will return to the beautiful village on 7th August.

Holidaymakers can enter the crabbing competition and try their hand at making a crab sand sculpture, while there will also be fishing demonstrations throughout the day.

For those looking for something less fishy, there will also be a painting competition, a pillow fight and a parade of decorated boats.

Sarah Streeter, Visit South Devon's marketing manager, revealed that a famous face will be making an appearance at the event.

She told visitsouthdevon.co.uk: 'The location's fantastic, the crabbing events should attract a whole new audience to the area and there's even a celebrity dressed as a crab – I can't tell you more, it's an official secret, but do come along and find out who he/she is.'

There will also be live entertainment on the village green throughout the evening, as kids can boogie down to the children's disco, while adults can dance to the sounds of local band Basher Tate.
