The Kingsbridge Music Festival raised £3,000 for charities last year and they’re hoping to do even better this year. There’s a great line-up from 20th to 22nd June. Also, in nearby Salcombe, the Yacht Club is holding a week of Merlin Rocket racing from 6th to 11th July and there are more than 100 boats entered.

Blooming Polperro is this year’s theme for the Polperro Festival, 21st to 29th June, and one of the highlights will be Jeremy Brooker playing his baryton (prizes if you know what that is!).

Golowan Festival and Mazey Day, Penzance, 22nd to 29th June. The Feast of St John on 23rd June is the focus of this traditional festival thankfully revived some 18 years ago. A Mock Mayor is elected on the Friday night followed by fireworks at the quay. The following day the streets are closed for Mazey Day, which features a series of colourful processions with children in themed costumes and bearing giant effigies they’ve made themselves. There’s music and bands from all over the world.

Feast Week, Mevagissey, 29th June to 5th July. A week-long festival with street processions and lots of activities for all the family. Fishing boats race round the bay, raft race competitors try and sink each other, there’s a carnival and the children parade in the village with a model fish they make for the festival. Serious fun!

The second Chagstock Music Festival is on 11th and 12th July in open fields on the edge of Dartmoor. Come and see local bands and well-known acts such as Show of Hands and Hothouse Flowers. The musical mixture of styles runs from rock to drum and bass to folk and blues. There’s a licensed beer tent plus a good choice of refreshments.

There are a couple of great food festivals in Somerset – The Taste of Bath Festival is on from 3rd to 6th July in the beautiful Royal Victoria Park and the Wellington Food Town is a two day food extravaganza on 5th and 6th July when the organisers hope to see more than 10,000 people in the grounds of Wellington School.

Have you heard about the Mythic Garden near Chagford? You’ll find over 100 sculptures on display, complemented by the informal planting of trees, shrubs and perennials in the five acre grounds of Stone Lane Gardens. It’s open all summer long.
