| Brrr … the north wind did blow and we had
some snow - that gave the children a rare day or
so off school - hurrah! They braved the flurries
to build a ‘snow pony’ (dried bracken for the
tail) which was a feat of engineering,
and then ducked back in to defrost in front of a good, hot
fire. Despite the seasonal weather, we still confidently
maintain spring will arrive in a flash
and with Easter just 6 weeks away, there’s
still plenty of time to plan a stay in one of our carefully
inspected, star-rated and warm holiday homes. Please
contact us - we regularly visit our properties and we’ll
help you find the very best place for your holiday. |

| … at the moment, but come Sunday 30th April they’ll
be very popular and welcome in the South Hams village of
Blackawton when the annual Worm
Charming Festival takes place. Fifty teams of three
– a Charmer, a Catcher and a Counter
– try to entice as many worms as they can from a 4’
square piece of ground in 15 minutes. The record, set about
10 years ago, is 149. The competition starts at 10am and
is governed by the rules of the British and European Federation
of Worm Charmers. The British Association of Worm Length
Supporters (BAWLS) states that all worms must be returned
to the earth after counting! There’s also a Beer
Festival and live music running into the evening
and all funds go to local charities. Currently, holiday
homes
L243
(South View) and
L244
(Five Shires) in the village are available
that week. Or for somewhere in the area, near the sea and
a pub and great for coastal walks, try
L214 (Tinker’s Cottage). |
| Fresh air and healthy exercise are available in abundance
over the Whitsun weekend in North
Devon and Exmoor. A walking and cycling festival
will give you the opportunity to explore the area and guide
you along routes through the lovely and varied countryside.
You can meet like-minded people at a free Welcome
Buffet in Ilfracombe on 28th April.
Visit www.walkingnorthdevon.co.uk
for more details. |
| We have lots of holiday homes in the area available that
week from
Lillycombe
(F501), sleeping 15, to
The
Cottage at Woody Bay
(F177). |
| … and even moor walking … this time
on Dartmoor. Visit

historic Dartmoor buildings. |
| We’re delighted to announce our sponsorship of Max
Daymond, aged 16. He’s been racing for just
a year and is already proving a champion in the making.
Max has been competing in the Regional Championship and
won The Octane Cup Championship in junior
Rotax and came 2nd in the South West Championship for 2005.
In 2006, Max will be racing in the ‘Senior
Rotax Max’ and is aiming for a championship
win. Former F1 champion, Nigel Mansell,
has already spotted Max’s potential. He’s
competing against the champion’s sons this season
and Mansell has given him such pearls of wisdom as, “Stay
on the black bits and always look after your Mum.” |

| Having had a taste of success with awards
in 2005/2006, we’re keen to try for more and we understand
that voting will soon be taking place for the Guardian,
Guardian Unlimited and Observer Travel Awards.
These awards are voted for by the readers and to vote you
need to either fill in the questionnaire, which will be
in the newspaper (we believe during one or two weekends
in March) or online at
www.guardian.co.uk/travel.
If you think we’re worthy of nomination, we’d
be delighted if you’d take a moment to vote
for Helpful Holidays. Whilst doing so, you’ll
also get the chance to win a holiday, so best of
luck and thank you for your support. |
| We hope you’ve received a copy of our first brochure
supplement of new holiday homes for 2006. If you
haven’t, do contact us and we’ll send you one.
Plans for the second supplement are well
under way and an early taster of some of these hugely
varied holiday homes can be sampled below. |
| Remember, just enter the property reference in the Quick
search box on the website home page, or simply
click on the image and you’ll link straight through
to view lots more (big) pictures of any properties that
interest you.
We really look forward to hearing from you and helping
you find a holiday home that is exactly right
for you.
Best wishes
Moray Bowater
