| A woodpecker in the oak woods, a cuckoo
cuckooing and swallows darting into the
barns … spring must, at last, be upon us!
The West Country is blooming. NOW is the time to
visit to see it in all its verdant and pastoral
glory. With another bank holiday at the end of
the month, now’s the time to get
away for a stress-busting, cobweb-blowing, battery-recharging
break. Do some strolling… take a
picnic… amble the lanes… drink in a view - or
two.
As ever, all our properties have been inspected
by us and come with our wholehearted recommendation
as good places for happy holidays.
Speak to one of our team who’s visited for a first-hand
recommendation. |
| If you’re looking forward to England’s conquest
of the footballing world this summer, why not think about
taking a group of friends away for a break at one of our
larger properties? Many of them have wide screen TVs and
satellite. Try these for a gathering … |
| Or if you just want to escape the frenzy,
come down to the South West, ignore the telly and head for
the beaches, countryside or walk the coastal
path. Try these for some peace … |
| Jamie Oliver will be launching his Fifteen
Cornwall restaurant at Watergate Bay in May. The
reservation lines opened officially on the 28th March and
took over 3000 bookings in the first couple of weeks. For
more information or to book, visit
www.fifteencornwall.co.uk
or call 01637 861000. |
| Holiday homes nearby include
Pendowr House (
Q321)
at Watergate Bay and
Uphill
Cottage (
P346)
at Penrose. |
| … is the largest event in the county
calendar and is a great place to enjoy a flavour of rural
life. It’s happening between the 18th and
20th May. The Show is a giant shop window of rural Devon
with magnificent livestock, bountiful food and drink
made from top quality local ingredients and a glorious flower
and garden marquee. It’s a great
day out! The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery
heads the line-up of top entertainment. For more information
visit www.devoncountyshow.co.uk. |
| Our second supplement of fabulous new
holiday homes is now available. We showed you a few in the
last newsletter, but here are some more. You’ll always
be able to speak to one of our team with first-hand knowledge
of all of these and any of our other properties; they’re
all involved in inspecting and photographing
them. |
| We try to ‘do our bit’. We’re not going
to go on about it, but just so you know, we support various
charities – they include … The Marine
Conservation Society (MCS) - which promotes clean
waters around the South West and produces a useful guide
to the region’s beaches. Visit its website at
www.goodbeachguide.co.uk
for further information.

To mitigate the effects of the carbon emissions associated
with the business, we’re also happy to support Climate
Care. Through its sustainable energy projects,
Climate Care reduces pollution (CO2) equal to the amount
we create. Visit www.climatecare.org
for more info.
Every year we ask our holidaymakers to support a different
local charity. In 2006 it is The Devon Air Ambulance.
We suggest a £1 donation with each booking. We then
match the total raised at the end of the year.
Last year Farms for City Children, the
Iddesleigh based charity which introduces city children
to life in the countryside, benefited from donations to
the tune of £2121. |
| As well as the charities we support as a business, our
employees are also active fund-raisers. Sylvia did a sponsored
walk for Cancer Research on the 21st April
and raised £80. Helen is also walking 13 miles in
aid of Breast Cancer Research on the 4th
June and is hoping to raise about £200. Well done
Sylvia and good luck Helen. |
| 2006 looks like being a vintage year. The questionnaires
we’ve had back so far are our best ever – overwhelmingly
enthusing and hugely encouraging for us – many thanks.
We continue to focus our attention on finding good quality
holiday accommodation we believe you’ll enjoy staying
in, telling you what it’s really like and helping
you choose a place that’s just right for you.
We look forward to hearing from you soon.
Best wishes
Moray Bowater
