'Carnival Cheer'
The West Country is famous for its carnivals which run during the summer months and even into the darker days of November. But let’s concentrate on the bright days of summer.

Look out for these Cornish carnivals:
Looe 24th – 30th July; Padstow 30th July;
St Agnes 6th August; Bude 20th August; Wadebridge 26th – 29th August.

In Devon, Dawlish has an 8-day Carnival and Air Show from August 18th while in Dorset, the Weymouth Carnival and International Fireworks Display is on 17th August.

If you’re staying in one of our cottages near any of these, do go and join in the fun.

'South Hams attractions'
If you will be staying in one of our South Hams cottages in Devon or nearby, do go to the website at www.southdevonaonb.org.uk for a wonderful selection of activities which will bring you closer to the local countryside and coastline and its wildlife. For example, you can paddle up the Dart River by moonlight, watch bats in the company of an expert, visit a farm, and many other unusual outings.
'Food, glorious food!!'
The profile of locally grown and produced South West food and drink has risen sharply in recent years and food festivals are becoming a major new attraction in the region.

While staying in one of our self-catering properties, what better chance to experiment and perhaps try a new recipe you’ve just seen demonstrated by a celebrity chef.

Wonderful West Country Food

In Plymouth, FlavourFest returns to the city centre after a resoundingly successful launch last year. There is the chance to sample venison, ostrich, olives, goat’s cheese, and seafood plus fresh organic meat and vegetables direct from the farm. The festival runs for three days from August 19th.

At Tavistock the Food and Drink Festival takes place on 30th and 31st July. 20 of the West’s leading cheese makers will be present and a Jazz Band will entertain visitors in the festival café.

So if you’ve already planned to visit the South West this summer, we wish you a fantastic time, and if not, we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Best wishes
