| Hooray! The weather forecasters have
been getting it right. Warm and sunny late summer
days sliding us slowly towards autumn. The smoky
aroma of wood fires around the village
in the evening a sure sign of cooler nights. But fear not
the approach of winter – now is just the time for
a break. We have lots of holiday homes with woodburners
and open fires, some in enormous ancient
fireplaces, one even in a
bedroom
, so treat yourself to a warm and cosy
break this autumn! We carefully inspect
all our holiday homes and will give you an honest,
impartial opinion about any in our brochure. We’ll
help you find just the right one for you. Come on down for
a little West Country ‘tonic’ this autumn.
Our
2006 brochure is out now. Lots have been mailed
already. If you’d like one, call us,
order
one online or
email
us and we’ll post it. The website is also up to
date with all the property details for 2006 and you can
book online at
www.helpfulholidays.com. |
Just because the evenings are becoming
darker, it doesn’t mean that there is nothing going
on – far from it! In Somerset there
is just the antidote to dark nights with
a spectacular 2-mile procession of dazzling carnival
floats and brilliant firework displays to mark
the 400th anniversary of the Guy Fawkes Gunpowder
plot. The touring carnival will wind its way along
the main streets of major towns starting in Bridgewater
on 4th November and then moving on to North Petherton,
Highbridge and Burnham-on-Sea, Shepton Mallet, Wells, Glastonbury
and ending in Weston-super-Mare on November 14th.
There are lots of photos and more information on
www.somersetcarnivals.co.uk
and www.carnivalchronicle.co.uk.
Helpful Holidays has holiday homes in
these areas; for example |

November 5th is also
the date for the famous Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels
event, and the week after there is a similar event in Hatherleigh
in mid-Devon. Nearby holiday homes are
G77,
G9
for Ottery and J10,
J152
for Hatherleigh.
In Falmouth at Discovery Quay there
is the 4-day Oyster Festival from 20th
October.

| Well, we did go to Widecombe
Fair and it was a great success; we welcomed lots
of visitors to our stand and held the launch party for our
2006 brochure in the evening. Bales were
tossed, ponies paraded, dogs judged and the atmosphere on
the showground in the evening was lively with tug-of-war
teams from all over the moor competing
under the floodlights. In the background were cheering
and music and local ale flowed. The fair is held every year
on the second Tuesday in September and we have lots of cottages
within easy striking distance. A few of the team were lucky
enough to stay at Bonehill House on a hill
overlooking the village, a magical setting
that night under a full moon. |
| The autumn half term (21st/22nd
October) is busy, but we still have a few properties
left in most areas. Some examples are |
They’re closer than you think!
Our holiday homes are filling up quickly. The changeover
days are midweek this year, so you can have a really good
break over either holiday week. Bideford, Dartmouth,
Exmouth, Looe and St Ives all celebrate New Year
more than most with fireworks and fancy dress. Use the ‘Advanced
Search’ function on the home page of our website to
find holiday homes in these areas.
| These will feature in our brochure
supplements early next year but the details are on
our website already and we’re taking bookings
for them now. Here are a couple you may not have seen
before. |
| So, before you get stuck into your
Christmas shopping, family visits, office parties
and exhausting jollifications, why not recharge your
batteries with a break away?
We look forward to helping you
find a good place for your holiday.
Best wishes
