People taking Cornwall holiday cottage breaks in July will be lucky enough to see some of Europe's largest working cannons in action at an event taking place at
Pendennis Castle.
Dubbed Firepower, the event is back due to public demand and will feature cannons and guns dating from the 1500s to the second world war.
The castle's gun crew and Cornwall-based Stargun Company will be in charge of the operations during the family-friendly event, which takes place on 29th and 30th July from 11:00am to 5:00pm.
According to the organisers, 'the roar of gunfire will thunder over Falmouth Bay and conjure up the explosive atmosphere of a battleground' meaning it may be wise to bring along some ear plugs.
Commentaries on the evolution of weaponry will accompany the firing of the guns, which include the likes of Roaring Meg, the largest gun of its kind in Europe, and 14 mile range US second world war field gun Long Tom.
Pendennis Castle was built by King Henry VIII due to possible attack by Spain and France.
