History enthusiasts enjoying a break in a Devon holiday cottage are invited to go back in time at the fascinating
Tiverton Museum.
The museum itself dates back to 1959 but it displays objects from times long before this, giving visitors a captivating insight into Devon's local history.
Highlights of the museum include a Victorian carpet sweeper, a Bolham Roman bowl, a collection of local clocks, mantraps and the so-called Tivvy Bumper - a former Great Western locomotive.
It also houses the Devon 'Ship' Waggon, built by a Mr Pearcey of Payhembury in 1870, which was used for many years on farms in Awliscombe and Buckerell.
In all, 14 galleries of exhibits are open to the public each of which describes what life was like in Mid-Devon throughout the years.
The museum is open from the beginning of February until Christmas from Monday to Saturday and costs £4.25 for adults.
