The place:
Buckfastleigh: pleasant little old town beside the River Dart and Buckfast Abbey, close to Dartmoor. Outdoor swimming pool. Dart Valley steam railway. Butterfly and otter sanctuary. 4 miles to Holne en route to the moor, 6 to Totnes (attractive old town, summer boat trips to Dartmouth; Torbay (seaside), 12. A good base.
The property:
… in Buckfastleigh, one of a dear little terrace of 18th cent. cottages, built for mill workers. A few yards of hardcore lane lead to it. At the back, a neat, suntrap paved courtyard garden with table/chairs. Inside, lots of character and quirkiness complemented by the artist-owner’s flair and style. Living/dining room with lots of beams and inglenook (gas ‘living flame’ stove); fitted kitchen (washer-drier, microwave, fridge-freezer) with door to garden (steps down). Stairs from living room up to landing and a double bedroom with pretty views of town/hills; bathroom (suite plus bath-shower). From landing, sliding door to half-ladder steps up to attic room with low vaulted ceiling beams and two single beds. TV/DVD. Brilliant for Dartmoor and coast. |
