The property:
2 miles from North Bovey in a lovely setting, is Bovey Castle, built in 1907 as a country seat for Viscount Hambledon, heir to the WH Smith Empire. The house is now a renowned hotel with a great golf course. Carefully hidden in the lovely grounds are 14 private, granite built lodges of which we offer 4. These smart, stylish, comfy properties overlook the beautifully restored Edwardian gardens, lake and tennis courts.
All the facilities of the hotel are yours to enjoy. They include indoor heated swimming pool (65’ x 19.5’ x 4.5’ deep), well-equipped gym, steam room, sauna, spa (offering a range of beauty treatments), restaurants and bistro. Outside are hard and grass tennis courts (lessons can be booked), a croquet lawn (seasonal, mallets provided) and cricket nets (late May-mid September).
For the younger members of your party the hotel has its own supervised play barn (available school holidays and half terms) with arts and crafts, daily egg collecting and meet the hotel ferrets. Seven to 14 year olds can join the Bovey Rangers (school holidays only, extra charge) and enjoy a wonderful array of activities ranging from rock climbing to survival skills, ending every day with high tea.
Optional extra activities include archery and rifle shooting, fly fishing, falconry, horse riding, clay pigeon shooting, cider and sloe gin making, and beekeeping!
Wrapped around the hotel and lodges is a championship 18 hole golf course. All guests over 16 receive a complimentary round (subject to availability) and there’s a driving range and pro shop as well.
If you’d rather something a little quieter there are daily falconry displays on the hotel terrace, or roam the 400 acre estate (wellies provided). Come back to these well-equipped cottages, and if you don’t feel like cooking, you can order a restaurant meal or pizza from room service to be delivered to your lodge, or for a special occasion you can book a table at the hotel’s Mulberry restaurant.
The hotel staff is friendly and will help you to arrange and book any activities you wish to partake in. This is an exceptional place to stay. Wedding licence, phone and WiFi, Maid Service, No Smoking.
