The place:
Combe Martin: village (small pebble/rock-pool beach, shops, pubs, church, wildlife park) ribboning down a valley to the sea on the edge of Exmoor. Beautiful 10 mile coast walk to Lynton/Lynmouth. Woolacombe’s sand/surf beaches, 10 miles; Saunton (superb golf, beaches) and Braunton Burrows (nature reserve), 14; Ilfracombe (resort town, boats to Lundy Island), 7½.
The property:
... at the top of the hill above the valley of Combe Martin, about 100 yards off the road and 3 miles from the village/pub, a unique house brilliantly made from a turn of the century bottling plant for Fortnum and Mason spring water. The house is on two levels with pretty garden and patio (barbecue) and terracing down to a small stream and ponds. Patio doors lead into a beautiful, L-shaped living room (open fire, TV/DVD/video) with picture windows looking over Combe Martin to the sea. Extremely well-equipped fitted kitchen/dining room with wood floor (handmade units, dishwasher, microwave, fridge-freezer, CD player). Utility room (butler’s sink, loo, washing machine, tumble drier). Three pretty bedrooms - one double with en suite bathroom (suite plus hand-shower), and two twin, one with en suite bathroom (suite plus hand-shower), the other with en suite shower-room (suite). Eight steps lead down to large hall with door to garden (table/chairs). A luxurious, delightful and sensationally positioned place. However, because of an ‘ancient spring-house’ (door bolted), the terracing and the ponds, please beware with very young children. Sleeps maximum of 6, including babies. |
