The place:
Jacobstowe: hamlet (church) in lush mid Devon, 5 miles from Dartmoor and 40 miles (1 hour’s drive) to either the rugged coast of north Cornwall, or the softer climes of Torbay. Nearest shops, Hatherleigh, 3 miles.

The property:
… ¾ mile from the heart of Jacobstowe, a handsome mid-Victorian coach house, beautifully converted into a cottage on a 700 acre private estate full of nurtured wildlife (herd of red deer) and flora. It faces out over its cobbled, high-walled, enclosed courtyard (picnic bench) which has excellent former tack rooms to serve as games rooms (table tennis etc) and dog kennels (no dogs in cottage); all are surrounded by magnificent mature trees, gardens and landscaped grounds (lake with island and summer house, rivers - fishing, ponds, formal and informal gardens, peacocks). The owners are rightly proud of their conservation management of the estate, most of which you are welcome to enjoy (children must be supervised), some by arrangement. Tennis court and games room (full-sized snooker table), about 200 yards from the cottage.

 

Inside, elegant and comfortable. Door from courtyard into large hall with plenty of room for boots/coats; open-plan living/dining/kitchen (dishwasher, washing machine, tumble drier, microwave, freezer). From hall, steep stairs up to snug with sofa and TV, and three bedrooms – a double with en suite shower-room (suite), and a double reached through a room with two head-to-toe single beds; bathroom (bath plus hand-shower, washbasin) and separate loo. Best for maximum of 4 adults and 2 children. Damages Deposit £150. An exceptional cottage in a stunning environment - a must for country-lovers.
