The place:
Welcombe Mouth: cove (rocks and sand at low-tide, great surfing) between spectacular cliffs in one of the most unspoilt parts of the West Country, and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Coast path, great birdwatching. Welcombe hamlet (community shop, good food pub, pottery), 1 mile. Hartland, 10 miles; Bude, 12.
The property:
… just over ½ mile from Welcombe Mouth beach, surrounded by meadows and woods, is Meadowgate, a large, totally secluded detached house belonging to Kirstie Allsopp (and featured in her Channel 4 show 'Kirstie's Homemade Home'). It stands in its own big garden set back from the little-used access lane. Recently (2009), it’s been completely renovated, refurbished, brought to life and made into a home. Opposite the front gate, a footpath through Nat. Trust bluebell woods down to the cove beach. Inside, full of colour, fun and family comfort with wood, slate or tiled floors. Just about everything has been provided for your comfort/convenience. From the garden and covered walkway, door to hall: cosy living room with open fire; children's play room with TV, toys, games, woodburner; huge kitchen/dining room (dishwasher, fridge-freezer) with large 6-oven electric Aga, lovely old dresser; utility with washing machine, tumble drier. Downstairs loo (washbasin). From hall, stairs up to five bedrooms, some with gorgeous views down the valley, most with wall hooks for clothes-hanging: a double (6' bed) with washbasin, roll-top bath and view; another double (5'6" bed) with washbasin, original fireplace (ornamental) and view; a third double (5' bed); twin (washbasin) with view; and a room with double bunks. Bathroom (suite with sturdy original bath plus hand-shower); shower-room (suite). TV/video. Outside, extremely useful warm shower for hosing down sandy children/dogs. Table tennis in garage. |
