The place:
East Portlemouth: exclusive, historic village across the sandy estuary from pretty Salcombe, the best boating/sailing place in the West Country. Pedestrian ferry (5 minute journey) runs continuously to Salcombe’s interesting shops, pubs and restaurants (8.30am to 7.30pm in summer, reduced times in winter); harbour taxi available until late at night in summer.
The property:
... right on the beach, and arguably the best positioned property in the West Country, is Beach House Quay, a former boathouse/artist’s studio and sail loft magnificently renovated and converted into a brilliant house. Wonderful views from all main rooms. On the secluded terrace with water views, a new state-of-the-art 10-person hydro-pool hot tub. Between April and October a rowing boat is provided with the house. You may hire (by prior arrangement, 6 weeks in advance): 16’ motorboat; 24’ powerboat; 33’ picnic boat; and 20’ yacht (weather/experience/safety conditions apply). A skipper is required for 24' powerboat, 33' picnic boat and 20' yacht. Walkway down from private parking area leads to large glass front door and inside the house is as magnificent as its position. Fitted kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, double oven range) with French windows to terrace; first big master double bedroom (6’ bed) with TV/DVD/video, en suite bathroom (suite plus bath-shower) and French windows to terrace; twin bedroom with adjacent shower-room (suite); shower-room; utility room (washing machine, tumble drier, freezer). Upstairs, a huge, high, light living/dining room (TV/DVD/video, CD player) with high windows opening to a balcony and views across the estuary to Salcombe and down to South Sands: perfect for entertaining with the estuary as the backdrop, or simply sitting and watching the world go by. Also upstairs, another three bedrooms: a double with 5’ bed, en suite bathroom (suite) and balcony with views to Salcombe; a large twin with dressing room, floor-to-ceiling windows (overlooking the estuary) and en suite bathroom (suite plus bath-shower); and a further twin. Large bathroom (suite plus bath-power-shower). Amtico floor with rugs upstairs. Outside, sandy terrace (barbecue) and deck surrounded by low wall, walk straight onto the beach (low tide). Boat shed. Slipway for launching (high tide). Parking for four cars. Quite exceptional: an amazing place. Cautionary Deposit £500. Arrival after 4pm. Caterers can be recommended by owner. Sailing and powerboat lessons available. |
