The property:
... Lukesland is a fine Victorian country house with a quite wonderful 24 acre garden, 1½ miles towards Dartmoor from Ivybridge. The present family has lived there since the 1930s, extending and ever improving the wonderful garden of woodland (enormous number of species, native and exotic, including Champion Magnolia campbelli and ‘handkerchief tree’ – the species ancestor’s seed brought from China by the first European person to spot a wild giant panda), shrubs (including superb rhododendrons – many gloriously red, some with big furry leaves – camellias and azaleas), little lawns and flower borders, secret places, glades with seats, walls with roses, all astride a Dartmoor–born stream with tiddlers, brown trout and, in spring, tadpoles in its crystal water, flowing tree-shaded through the garden’s middle, under foot-bridges, over waterfalls and via almost still, silent, lily ponds. A place of magic. Direct access to open moorland and Two Moors Way (7 minutes). Private brown trout fishing (included) on the River Erme, 1½ miles away. From mid-April to mid-June and mid-October to mid-November the garden is open to the public twice a week, otherwise you share it only with the owners.
... in the grounds of Lukesland (A251), a recently, thoughtfully converted cottage, the Clock House, 200 yards from the main house, peacefully beside the disused stables and another cottage. Immediately outside, small paved terrace (furniture, barbecue), enclosed area and open-sided sheds; 50 yards away, a good-sized, enclosed garden with seats, just for your use. Unlimited access to the rest of the lovely garden and direct access to the open moor (walkers).
Inside, surprisingly spacious with some exposed stone walls, beams, tiled floor downstairs, oak floors (rugs) upstairs. The cottage is full of light. Stable doors to small hall; off it, utility room with loo, washer-drier and drying racks. The living room is prettily decorated with Nepalese rugs and wall hangings, granite hearth (woodburner), ceiling to the apex with gallery all round, TV/DVD and French windows to terrace. Smart light oak kitchen with bright tiles, microwave, dishwasher, freezer, dining table and French windows to terrace. Downstairs bedroom (6’ linked bed or twin) and large en suite shower-room (wet-room suite). Upstairs, two more bedrooms - a double (6’ linked bed or twin), and a single. Bathroom (suite plus bath-shower). Spacious gallery looking down into the living room and a ‘quiet area’ with sofa, and desk beside the ancient, safely shielded workings of the clock, gently ticking – you may watch time pass and the pendulum swing (no chimes). Ready meals available. It's a lovely place.
