The leisure club has an air conditioned fitness suite, steam room, spa and indoor heated pool. The 'fine, big bedroom' has twin beds zip linkable to a 6' double, not 5' as stated in the brochure. The bunk bedroom has an en suite shower room, not a bathroom as stated in the brochure.

The place:
Salcombe: one of the most beautifully sited small towns in Britain, at the mouth of the Kingsbridge estuary, a yacht haven with creeks, sandy bays. Waterside pubs, nice shops. Boats to hire, fishing, superb Nat. Trust cliff walks/gardens; museum, tennis, outdoor swimming pool (in summer); pedestrian ferry to East Portlemouth (lovely beaches). Thurlestone (golf), 6 miles.

The property:

... Underbecks is an exceptionally exciting detached house, brilliantly positioned on the hillside just above and overlooking South Sands’ sandy beach and with sensational views upstream to Salcombe, a mile away, from its good-sized enclosed terrace (loungers, table/chairs, sheltered barbecue area).

The Tides Reach leisure complex (200 yards away) has daily membership, and a full-sized snooker table, table tennis, a good restaurant and outdoor and indoor pool for adults/teenagers. Boats can be hired locally.

The house is near Overbecks House and garden (Nat. Trust) and immediately below the former Bolt Head Hotel (now luxury apartments). Exceptionally spacious, full of light streaming in from the many floor-to-ceiling windows and roof lights (you almost feel as though you are living in the view rather than looking at it), it is decorated and furnished cleverly (mainly in cream, beige, taupe), and comfortable, very stylish and modern - no chintz here.

Steps (42) from the road lead down to the front door and into the large hall - where light streams down from the roof windows on to two specially designed sails hanging on the side wall - and on to the large open-plan living room which draws you to the huge bay windows for the view. Off it, a bedroom with double (5’ bed) and en suite bathroom (suite plus separate power-shower); and another bedroom with double aspect view, double (5’ bed) and en suite bathroom (suite plus separate power-shower). Both these bedrooms have excellent views. At the back - no view - are a twin bedroom and separate bathroom (suite plus bath-shower), and a fine big bedroom with 5’ double or zip-linkable twin beds plus en suite bathroom (suite plus separate power-shower) and doors to a very spacious, private decked balcony with loungers and sea glimpses.

Stairs down from the hall to a large full-width-of-house open-plan room (49’ long) with tiled floor. This comprises a second living room with floor-to-ceiling bay window leading to the terrace, a state of the art home cinema including plasma screen, Sky High Definition, digital music library and surround sound, and dining room with atmospheric overhead mood lighting, which in turn leads to the well fitted beech kitchen with island divider (freezer, microwave, dishwasher, double oven, halogen hob) – a fine room full of sunshine and light. Sliding doors in second living room and dining room open to the terrace. Washing machine and tumble drier in separate utility cupboard.

At the back of the house on this floor is a bedroom decorated for children, with two sets of full-sized bunk beds and en suite bathroom (suite plus separate power-shower).
