… halfway between Marhamchurch and Widemouth Bay is Whalesborough Farm, dating from the Domesday Book. From the A39, 700 yards of good concrete lane lead to it. Excellent cheese is produced (you can watch it being made). Footpaths over owners’ land to the beach at Widemouth, 1 mile; to Bude beaches, along the coastal path, 2 miles. Canal towpath (recently regenerated) and cycle track to Bude, both easily accessed from farm. Seasonal tea rooms, 400 yards. Two buildings have been converted into houses; they both have use of an outdoor heated swimming pool (50’ x 25’ x 3’3’’ to 5’ deep, available 1 May to 11 Sept). Excellent enclosed children’s play area (climbing frames, slides, swings, Wendy house).

The Calf House is a handsome detached stone house converted from old barns, winning a design award. At its front is a small walled patio (table/chairs); at the back, an open cobbled courtyard.

Inside, comfortable and thoroughly well maintained. Open-plan dining/fitted kitchen (dishwasher, microwave, freezer, dining table most comfortably seats 8) and living room with height-of-house ceiling (exposed beams), large leather sofa, TV/DVD and woodburner. Utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and loo. Two downstairs bedrooms – a bunk room, and a room with three single beds (one accessed by ladder steps), VDU/DVD and washbasin; shower (washbasin). Stairs (stairgate) from living room up to gallery landing and two more bedrooms – a double with washbasin and en suite shower-room (shower, loo), and another double with washbasin; bathroom (suite).
